Returning and New Students

Course Access and Restrictions: LHP Summer Math Canvas Courses are only accessible within the 50 United States.  Please note that access is not supported outside of the 50 states, including U.S. territories.

We strongly encourage students to keep their math skills sharp over the summer break. All students in 4th–6th grade have optional summer math work in Canvas. The course is self-paced, with instructional videos and automatic feedback on practice problems.

Students entering any accelerated level where a grade level of mathematics will be skipped (Accelerated Math 4, Accelerated Math 5, Accelerated Math 6 or Pre-Algebra H) are required to complete the summer math Canvas course as a non-graded prerequisite.  The Canvas course assignment is based on placement and should be completed by the first day of school.

Summer Math

While there is no required summer work for math courses in the Middle School, we strongly encourage students to keep their math skills sharp over the summer break. Below you will find the optional summer work available by course name.

Math 7, Pre-Algebra, Honors Pre-Algebra

Please be sure to check your student's Canvas Dashboard for access to optional Summer Math practice. You can log in at lhps.instructure.com, where all materials and instructions will be available to help you complete the tasks.

Algebra 1/Honors Algebra 1, Honors Geometry

Students entering any level of Algebra 1/Honors and Geometry will have two options to complete this summer. Each option is worth a 5 point grade, due by Monday, August 17, 2026. If you choose not to complete one or both options, your grade will not be penalized and the assignment(s) will be excused. These practice opportunities are meant to be completed independently, without assistance from a tutor or AI.

Option 2: Khan Academy, "Getting Ready for..." Courses

By clicking the links below, you will automatically be enrolled in a class, where your teacher can check your progress on the due date. Returning students should sign-in using Google and your lhprep email account. New students will need to create a Khan Academy account using a personal email.

Summer Reading

Rising 9th and 10th Graders

An assignment accompanies the text to assist with comprehension and critical thinking. The assignment is due on the first day of English class. The assignment is linked below the book on the summer reading page.

Rising 11th and 12th Graders

An assessment, either in the form of a test or essay, will be required during the first week of school.

Summer Math

While there is no required summer work for high school credit math courses, we strongly encourage students to keep their math skills sharp over the summer break. Students who review key concepts over the summer feel more confident and prepared when the new school year begins. 

Students entering any level of Algebra 1, Geometry, Algebra 2, College Algebra, or Precalculus will have two options to complete this summer. Each option is worth a 5 point grade, due by Monday, August 17, 2026. If you choose not to complete one or both options, your grade will not be penalized and the assignment(s) will be excused. These practice opportunities are meant to be completed independently, without assistance from a tutor or AI.

*Important Note: Students entering the Hybrid Algebra 2/Pre-Calculus Honors course are required to complete a summer packet. This requirement and related materials have already been communicated to the families of those students.

Calculator Information: All Upper School math classes will use the TI nspire CX II. Please note the TI nspire CX II CAS is a different calculator and will NOT be permitted in some US math classes. It is also NOT permitted on the ACT, PSAT, or SAT.
