Voices that Inspire

The African American Read-In Community Event is an annual celebration at Lake Highland featuring selected works presented by respected community leaders. The eventduring Black History Monthhonors African American literature, authors, and storytellers, bringing together students, families, educators, and community members to engage with works that showcase the rich contributions of African American voices in literature and music.

Through author presentations and read-aloud activities, participants deepen their appreciation for the history, creativity, and perspectives reflected in these works. The African American Read-In Community Event promotes literacy while fostering inclusivity, cultural awareness, and community connection.
