Need-based Financial Aid

Lake Highland offers need-based financial aid to qualified families with students in grades 6-12. Financial aid must be applied for and evaluated annually. The application process for financial aid is self-managed and allows families to track each step from start to finish.

LHP does not offer academic, athletic, or other merit-based scholarships. Additionally, Lake Highland limits financial aid awarding to two children per family. International students are not eligible for financial aid.

Assessing Financial Aid

To objectively determine each family’s need for aid, we use Independent School Management’s program, Financial Aid for School Tuition (FAST), which provides a confidential, need-based financial aid analysis service. FAST provides the school with a detailed analysis, including a family’s expected financial contribution to tuition. FAST does not determine whether financial assistance will be given or how much to give.

To receive financial aid, candidates must:

Be accepted to and enrolled at Lake Highland Preparatory School
Have a solid academic record and remain in good academic standing
Have strong character and integrity
Be involved in activities outside the classroom
Be current with financial obligations to Lake Highland

The Financial Aid Committee may only consider candidates who provide the required information, follow the guidelines, and meet deadlines.

How do I apply for financial aid?

Does LHP accept the McKay, Step-Up, or other federal scholarships?

Only one parent works outside the home. Must both parents be employed to receive financial aid?

If parents are divorced or separated, do you require both parents to complete the FAST financial aid process?

Yes, for audit and compliance purposes, the income, expenses, assets, and liabilities of both parents are required. Custodial and non-custodial parents must complete the FAST application and submit copies of their 2024 tax returns and W-2 form(s).

Remarriage of either parent creates a new family unit. On the FAST application, each parent should include information relating to their “new” family, specifically financial information on a new spouse (step-parent).

The Financial Aid Committee at Lake Highland Prep considers both parents’ ability to contribute to tuition, not their willingness. It is the custodial parent’s responsibility to ensure that the FAST application is completed by all parties by the Financial Aid application deadline.

The School recognizes that, at times, unusual circumstances may make it difficult for both parents/guardians to obtain and supply financial information. In these cases, an electronic request form must be submitted for the School’s consideration before further review of the financial aid application. Each request is reviewed on a case-by-case basis and parents/guardians may be asked to submit additional documentation. If either parent/guardian declines to submit the required information, the decision to award aid and/or the amount of aid may be affected.
