By exploring the latest advancements in science and technology, Lake Highland’s Innovation Institute helps Highlanders engage their curiosity through hands-on learning experiences and enriching co-curricular activities. LHP faculty members frequently participate in professional development to remain at the cutting edge of innovation.
Beginning in Lower School and continuing to Upper School, students engage in project-based learning cultivating critical thinking, collaboration, creativity, and communication skills. They also develop leadership and entrepreneurial skills by addressing real-world problems and presenting solutions to live audiences. Utilizing the latest technology and state-of-the-art resources, students are actively involved in their learning, preparing them for fulfilling careers.
Opened in August 2023, the Porter Family Center for Innovation & Academics is an exceptional 71,000-square-foot facility that offers transformative spaces for Highlanders to learn, collaborate, problem-solve, and create. Some features of the Porter Family Center for Innovation & Academics include the Robotics Warehouse, Interactive Studio, HAZMAT Robotics, and ASPIRE program.
Highlander HAZMAT Robotics teams are a competitive extension of the robotics curriculum. Students strategize, design, build, program, and operate robots while developing business proposals, fundraising, marketing their ideas, and engaging community partners. During this process, students strengthen their STEM knowledge, teamwork and problem-solving skills while enhancing their creativity.
Our Interactive Studio is an epicenter for all things creative. It is the home for all of our Game Design, Animation, 3D Modeling, Digital Art, and Online Branding classes.
The Carmany Family Innovation Hub is a state-of-the-art design and fabrication hub where students discover the excitement of hardware creation. Here, students gain hands-on experience using CNC machines, laser cutters, 3-D printers, and other high-tech tools. They develop practical skills in precision manufacturing and prototyping, allowing them to transform their ideas into real, functional creations.
The Advanced STEM Program emphasizing Internship and Research Experiences, or ASPIRE, matches highly motivated science and math Upper School students with leading researchers and professionals at research facilities in Central Florida.
