The College and Career Center at Lake Highland provides a comprehensive college planning program for students from 9th through 12th grade. The dedicated College and Career team helps students plan their futures step by step. All of LHP’s college counselors have experience working in college admission offices, enabling them to offer expert insight to Highlanders as they pursue their collegiate dreams.

Highlander Highlight: College Chat

Throughout the school year, College Counselors host meetings for parents about trending topics in high schools and college admissions. Parents can also ask questions and gain clarification about different aspects of the college application process.

Freshmen

Individual student meetings with a school counselor
Scoir for College & Career Planning: Scoir expands college access and improves student outcomes by connecting students, supporters, high schools, and colleges for a better admissions experience. Students gain access to Scoir in 9th grade.

Highlander Highlight: Freshman Seminar

All 9th graders are required to enroll in Freshman Seminar during the first semester of their freshman year. This course lays the foundation for a successful transition from Middle to Upper School, including targeted lessons by school counselors on important mental health topics.

Sophomores

College Planning 101: provides insight into the application process from a panel of college admission professionals
The Sophomore Experience: provides guidance on starting the college search process
Individual student meetings with a school counselor focused on progress toward graduation, goal setting, and preparation for the transition to the college counselor
Scoir for College & Career Planning: Scoir expands college access and improves student outcomes by connecting students, supporters, high schools, and colleges for a better admissions experience

Highlander Highlight: Sophomore College Tour

Sophomores travel to two vastly different colleges/universities to complete a campus tour. Students gain valuable information on various college options and can ask questions to better understand their “best fit” school.

Juniors

Highlander Highlight: Application Bootcamp

In the spring, juniors attend 40-minute college planning classes on various topics, beginning with the college search process, types of college applications, and college essays.

Seniors

Individual student and parent meetings with a college counselor

Transition to College Meeting for Senior Parents: This program focuses on supporting parents as their child transitions from high school to college
Senior App Lab: College counselors set up outdoor locations throughout the campus as well as senior homerooms to answer questions about the college application process.
